What these agents do
Inside sales agents research accounts, score and prioritise leads, draft outreach, run inbound qualification conversations, book meetings, and keep the CRM current. Autonomy ranges from drafting for a seller to running the conversation alone.
02
Genuinely good at
- Enriching and researching accounts at a volume no team can match
- Responding to an inbound enquiry in seconds rather than hours
- Keeping records complete, which most sellers will not do
- Consistent, patient follow-up
03
Genuinely bad at
- Complex, consultative, or multi-stakeholder deals
- Explaining why a particular lead scored the way it did
- Reading reluctance that is expressed indirectly
- Operating outside the markets its research sources cover well
04
The risks that matter
- Legal: unsolicited outreach is regulated differently in every market you sell into.
- Fairness: an unexplainable lead score is an unexplainable allocation of your team's attention.
- Quality: more meetings booked is not more pipeline if the no-show rate moves with it.
- Data: contact enrichment often relies on sources with unclear provenance.
05
How to evaluate one responsibly
- Ask whether scoring can be explained at the level of a single record.
- Ask for the downstream metric — meetings held, not meetings booked.
- Check do-not-contact enforcement inside the product.
- Establish where enrichment data comes from and whether you may lawfully use it.
Now compare what is actually declared.
The registry holds each agent’s stated facts — autonomy, oversight, compliance, residency, sustainability disclosure — with provenance on every field.

The evidence
- Independent research
- No commercial interest in the outcome. Method published.
- Analyst research
- Structured method, but the publisher sells advice in this market.
- Practitioner survey
- Self-reported. Good for direction, unreliable for magnitude.
- Vendor or customer material
- A claim about the publisher's own product. Not a finding.
Figures below are reproduced as published. We label who paid for the work and what the method can and cannot show. Where a number is self-reported or vendor-published, we say so next to the number rather than in a footnote.
4 of 4 sources
- 01Analyst research
Sellers spend roughly a quarter of their time actively selling.
- Source
- Bain & Company — Commercial excellence research on seller time allocation2023–2024
- Method
- Client engagement data and time-allocation studies across B2B sales organisations.
- What it does not show
- Describes where time goes, not whether an agent can recover it. Removing admin time does not automatically become selling time.
- 02Analyst research
Organisations using AI in sales report productivity gains of roughly 10–15%.
- Source
- McKinsey & Company — The state of AI and sales-productivity research2023–2025
- Method
- Cross-client benchmarking and executive surveys.
- What it does not show
- Self-reported by adopting organisations, and the publisher advises on the same transformations. No control group.
- 03Vendor or customer material
In a 2025 prospecting report, every user of an AI SDR tool reported saving time; about 40% reported saving four to seven hours a week.
- Source
- Prospecting-tool vendor — 2025 state of prospecting report2025
- Method
- Survey of the vendor's own users.
- What it does not show
- “Every user saved time” is a sign of a filtered sample, not a strong result. Non-adopters and churned users are absent.
- 04Vendor or customer material
Claims of “10x productivity” or “83% higher revenue”.
- Source
- Assorted suppliers — Sales-agent marketing material2024–2026
- Method
- Not disclosed.
- What it does not show
- No baseline, no comparison group, no definition of the metric. We list these only so you recognise them when a supplier repeats them.
We take no payment from any organisation named on this page, and no source is listed or omitted on commercial grounds. If a figure here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will correct it with the date of the change.
